Labour will build and strengthen partnerships with allies and regional powers to deliver security and prosperity at home and abroad.
We will work with our proud diaspora communities to enhance our cultural links across the world, recognising the contribution they make to the UK and their community.
Britain under Labour will
- Be strong on the world stage and ensure its voice is heard
- Be confident in the pursuit of our national interest
- Reconnect with our allies and partners around the world
- Forge new modern partnerships around the world
- Uphold human rights and international law
- Work with Britain’s diaspora communities including on the hidden costs of sending remittances
Gaza
Labour wants to see a permanent end to the conflict and long term peace and security. We have been calling for:
- An immediate ceasefire observed by both sides
- Unimpeded aid access and rapid increase to Gaza
- Immediate release of all hostages
- No UK arms or components sold to Israel to be used in a full-scale Rafah offensive and, if we’re elected, assess the legal advice on arms exports and we will act on that advice ensuring the UK is upholding its domestic and international obligations.
- international law to be upheld, and the independence of international courts must be respected, and that all sides must be accountable for their actions.
- Recognition of a Palestinian state as a contribution to a renewed peace process which results in a two-state solution with a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable and sovereign Palestinian state.
- We would review Britain’s position on Palestinian Membership of the UN which currently states that this should happen at the same time as domestic British recognition of Palestine as a state. We want to find the best way to advance both domestic recognition and UN membership.
Sudan
- Labour is hugely concerned about the devastating situation in Sudan, including the horrific reports of ethnically targeted violence, including sexual violence, in Darfur. The risk of atrocities in El Fasher in north Darfur is severe and Labour will support urgent coordinated action from the international community.
- Labour stands in solidarity with the Sudanese people who continue to demonstrate extraordinary courage and resilience in standing up for their rights
- We condemn restrictions on humanitarian access and support efforts to alleviate the ongoing suffering of displaced people, including in neighbouring South Sudan and Chad.
- We have consistently raised our concerns in Parliament, pushing the government on its failure to prepare for the conflict and to act effectively in support of peace and security in Sudan.
- Labour will support stronger and more coordinated international efforts for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, accountability for violations of international law, and the restoration of peaceful civilian governance.
Democratic Republic of Congo
- The Labour Party is deeply concerned about the dire humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- We recognise the large-scale displacement of people from their homes and the ongoing sexual violence.
- We support access to humanitarian aid and accountability for violations of international law.
- We condemn all forms of external support to the armed groups that are destabilising eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. We will join with international partners in pushing for a sustainable peace, including support for the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
- Labour will seek to work in partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo government, its neighbours, and regional and international partners, to support more diverse, fairer and more secure supply chains that can be mutually beneficial for the UK, Congolese communities, and regional states.
